Custom badge art

Replace Twitch badge images with inline badgeart mappings or a public badgegist, including safe URL limits and precedence.

Twitch global and channel badges load automatically. Use badgeart or badgegist when you want to replace a badge image.

Messages from the owner account mrdemonwolf also show the official MrDemonWolf wolf logo inside a shield-shaped badge. It follows the badges visibility setting.

Inline mappings with badgeart

Use comma-separated set=url pairs. Add /version to target one version of a badge set.

&badgeart=moderator=https://example.com/mod.png,subscriber/12=https://example.com/1yr.png

Hosted mappings with badgegist

Point badgegist at a public gist ID or URL. The gist can contain one mapping per line or a JSON map. Editing the gist updates the art without changing the browser source URL.

vip=https://example.com/vip.png

Precedence and limits

From weakest to strongest, HowlBox uses Twitch art, then badgegist, then inline badgeart. A bare set key covers every version of that set. A version-specific key overrides the bare key.

Badge image URLs must use HTTPS and cannot contain a username or password. The browser must be able to fetch the image with permissive CORS headers. The combined inline and gist mapping list is capped at 200 entries.

Gist data is fetched from GitHub's public API without a token. GitHub allows 60 unauthenticated requests per hour per IP. Refresh is off by default; when enabled, the five-minute minimum keeps requests below that limit. Gists over 16 files or 64 KB are skipped entirely.

Badge, emote, and avatar images use a no-referrer policy, so the overlay URL is not sent to their hosts.
